The Appeal of John Boyd’s Paintings
John Boyd has had his work in the Polly Skye Gallery for a while now and most of his paintings do not last long before being snapped up by discerning customers. So, what is the appeal? Well, John specialises in scale and space. His canvases, whatever size, evoke a sense of awe and wonder at the vastness of the sea, sky and landscape. People and their dogs appear as tiny, fleeting presences in space and time. Yet his vision is optimistic. The people in his paintings are happy; they are enjoying themselves having fun or contemplating the world; they are at home in the landscape and the sea always invites rather than threatens. The air seems fresh, the world always beautiful. John will be bringing new work to the gallery very soon. I’d suggest that they will be worth the visit to Lynton!
