Spring Painting Weekend: 25-26 February 2017. Acrylics for Beginners in Lynton and the Valley of Rocks

New Year, new hobby? Why not join my beginners’ acrylics weekend, a painting holiday in Devon based in one of the most beautiful areas of the country? All materials are included in the price and you will leave with a sketch book, pencil, canvas, paints and paintbrushes; just come ready to enjoy yourself with like-minded people in this fantastic location on the Exmoor coast.

The weekend begins on Saturday at 10am in the Polly Skye gallery where you will have a short introduction to acrylics and a chance to experiment with colours and textures. Then we will walk to the Valley of Rocks to sketch and take photos, so bring your phone/camera/tablet. (If there is torrential rain, we will take our photos and sketches in the comfort of Highcliffe House which has stunning views along the coast and across to Wales,) There will be an hour for you to enjoy lunch in a local café of your choice and then the afternoon session will see you starting on your canvas using the colours and shapes that inspire you. The session will end at 4.00pm. On Sunday morning you will work on your painting with help and guidance until lunchtime (10.30-1.00) when you will be free to go home. Or why not spend more time exploring the local area?

Additional tuition can be arranged if you want to continue on Monday. Please call or email for details.

Lynton is a beautiful location and perfect for a weekend away either alone or with others. Partners who do not wish to paint can enjoy local walks, artisan shops and the stunning scenery. There is horse riding, the steam train, surfing, a great local cinema and spectacular cycle routes all within minutes of the gallery.

The focus of the weekend is firmly on helping each person find their own style and does not take a demonstration and copy approach. It’s about seeing shapes and colours and using them to express yourself on canvas. I will not paint on your canvas or tell you not to do something. I will, on the other hand, encourage you in your ideas and ask helpful questions/make suggestions to help you achieve what you want.

Cost: £150
